Why You Struggle to Think Abstractly About Problems

Abstract thinking is one of the biggest hurdles in programming. If you struggle to break down complex problems, visualize abstract concepts, or translate real-world scenarios into code, you’re not alone. Most programmers face this mental roadblock—especially in high-stakes interviews. Our approach targets this specific challenge with interactive tutorials, clear visual models, and step-by-step exercises that fundamentally transform the way you tackle problems.

Watch how we teach abstract thinking in our lessons

Abstract Thinking Framework

Our structured approach teaches you how to identify patterns and build mental models, enabling you to view problems at multiple levels of abstraction—essential for breaking through cognitive blocks.

Visual Concept Mapping

Our video explanations transform complex abstract concepts into clear visual models, making them easier to grasp and apply.

Interactive Abstraction Exercises

Step-by-step exercises guide you through converting real-world problems into code, reinforcing effective abstract thinking techniques along the way.

Abstraction-Focused Problems

We've curated over 290 problems specifically designed to build your abstract thinking skills—taking you from concrete examples to challenging, open-ended scenarios.

Language-Agnostic Approach

Our curriculum focuses on core abstract thinking principles that apply across every programming language, so you build problem-solving skills that truly last.

Abstract Thinking Certification

Earn a certification that validates your mastery of abstract thinking—a critical asset that distinguishes you in technical interviews and the workplace.

OUR MISSION

Overcome Abstract Thinking Barriers

We’ve designed AlgoCademy specifically for programmers who struggle with abstract thinking—the most common barrier to success in coding interviews and career growth. Whether you find it challenging to translate real-world problems into code or to integrate individual concepts into holistic solutions, our curriculum is tailored to help you break through these obstacles.

AlgoCademy is right for you if you experience these abstract thinking challenges:

You struggle to translate real-world problems into code because visualizing the abstract structure seems overwhelming.

You understand individual concepts but have difficulty combining them into comprehensive, abstract solutions.

Your mind goes blank when faced with abstract interview questions that provide few hints on which approach to take.

You can follow tutorials step-by-step but struggle to develop your own solutions that call for deep, abstract thinking.

You feel overwhelmed by abstract concepts in algorithms and data structures, making it hard to apply them in different scenarios.

"After going through all the lessons, I gained the necessary skills to perform well at my on-sites. I crushed even the DP problems, which were my biggest fear. The abstract thinking framework completely changed how I approach problems. And thanks to that I landed offers from Microsoft and Uber. Thank you AlgoCademy!"

Cristina Radulescu

Senior Software Engineer at Uber

"AlgoCademy really helped me improve my abstract thinking skills and write incredibly clean code. I was worried it wouldn’t be done in time for my coding interviews, but the way the curriculum builds your abstract thinking made me progress very quickly. Their approach to teaching patterns rather than just solutions made all the difference."

Connor Holland

Software Engineer at Vanguard

"Wow. I've been using AlgoCademy for a while and now I can finally think abstractly about coding questions. Before, I couldn't see past the concrete examples, but their mental models approach helped me develop the abstract thinking I needed for interviews. I landed the offer at Samsung! You guys truly kick ass. High fives!"
