Each still runs, and each publishes its format, length and, in most cases, its price. The bootcamp market has shrunk a lot since 2023, so many names on older “best bootcamps” lists no longer exist or no longer sell the program those lists describe. This guide covers what is left, how to choose between them, and what to try first if you don’t want to spend $15,000 or more.

Comparison table (as of October 2026)

All details come from each school’s own pages, checked in October 2026. Its home page says apprenticeship earnings can offset tuition but gives no tuition figure or pay, and the software engineering page says the two certificates above have no apprenticeship. Ask for the price, the wage and the refund terms in writing before you consider it.

Hack Reactor does not print one list price on its main pages. The $19,480 figure is the worked example on its financing page, and the $2,500 scholarship requires passing its admissions test (the CCAT). It also lists full-tuition scholarships through Represent Tech.

Codesmith also runs free programs for eligible New York City residents (Foundational Launchpad, with an application deadline of November 6, 2026, and a 42-week Future Code NYC program starting November 30, 2026). These are for eligible NYC residents only.

Le Wagon prices differ by city and country. The numbers above are for the online course on the Europe time zone page; local campuses and other regions list their own prices.

Sources: Flatiron, Hack Reactor, Codesmith, Le Wagon.

What each program is like

Flatiron School

Flatiron is the cheapest of the four at list price. The certificate is built from self-paced modules, live weekly facilitation and weekly 1:1 mentorship, and it ends in a capstone project. Its stack is React, Flask and a relational database. The school says it has 20,000+ graduates but does not link an outcomes report on the pages we checked, and it states no job guarantee.

Hack Reactor

A live online program for people with little or no coding experience, in full-time and part-time versions. It advertises 1:1 career coaching and hiring partners, and says 14,000+ graduates have launched software careers. It publishes no placement rate or salary figure on the pages we checked.

Codesmith

The most expensive of the four. It sells a single combined program, Software Engineering + AI/ML. Its outcomes page refers to CIRR-verified outcomes (see below), so you can check the numbers yourself rather than trust a headline.

Le Wagon

The shortest full-time option: two months online, with a longer part-time version. It has campuses in many countries (its site says 28+), which matters if you want to learn near where you will work. Its course is now marketed as AI-focused web development.

What closed or changed

If you read older guides, be aware of these changes, all confirmed on the schools’ own sites or in news coverage:

2U’s university bootcamps. 2U announced in late 2024 that it would close the coding bootcamps it ran with universities. Its interim CEO said the long, intensive format “no longer aligns with what the market wants and needs.” Older rankings, including earlier versions of this post, listed university-branded bootcamps of that kind; they are not recommended here. Inside Higher Ed reported it in January 2025.

Code Fellows. Its home page states that “Code Fellows has ceased operations” after 11 years.

Other names that older lists include, such as Lambda School (now BloomTech), Coding Dojo, Thinkful, General Assembly, Fullstack Academy, App Academy and Springboard, are left out of the table because we could not confirm their current program, length and price on an official page. That does not mean they are closed. It means you should not trust a price quoted for them without checking.

How to choose

Start with budget

At list price, a full-time bootcamp costs from about 7,400 EUR to $22,500 among the verified programs, and the part-time ones cost about the same. Add the lost income if you quit work for the full-time version. If you cannot afford the whole sum, a bootcamp is not the only way in (see below).

Match the format to your life

Full-time programs run about 40 hours a week for 2 to 4 months and are not compatible with a day job. Part-time programs take 7 to 13 months at 15 to 20 hours a week. Both are realistic only if you can protect that time. Live classes suit people who need a schedule; self-paced material suits people who already finish things alone.

Check how outcomes are reported

Ask for outcomes in a form you can audit. CIRR (the Council on Integrity in Results Reporting) is a non-profit that sets a standard for reporting graduation, placement and salary, and its member schools’ reports are independently audited. A school that cites a placement rate should say how many graduates are counted, which period it covers, and whether graduates who stopped job-hunting or took non-engineering jobs are in the number. “20,000 graduates” or “hired at 2,000 companies” is not an outcome rate. Be sceptical of old figures too: one school we checked still cites 2019 salaries on its page. For more on how hiring managers view bootcamp graduates, see the reputation of coding bootcamps among employers.

Read the financing terms

Income share agreements (ISAs). You pay a percentage of future income instead of upfront tuition. Check the percentage, the income threshold below which you pay nothing, the length of the agreement and the total cap. A low threshold and no cap can make an ISA cost far more than the sticker price. Several pages we checked do not list ISAs at all.

Loans. Ask for the interest rate, the lender and whether payments start while you are still studying. Hack Reactor’s page, for example, mentions a loan with an option to pay after you leave the program but gives no rate.

“Pays for itself” claims. Offsetting tuition with apprenticeship earnings, as Flatiron describes, depends on a wage and a placement the school may not publish. Ask what happens if you don’t get the apprenticeship.

Refunds and guarantees. Get any job guarantee or refund policy in writing, with its conditions (applications per week, accepted job types, time limits).

Test before you pay

Do a free beginner course for a month first. If you stick with it, a bootcamp’s structure, mentors and career coaching are worth paying for. If you don’t enjoy it at the free stage, you will have saved a lot of money. Also ask to see the admissions test or technical interview, and talk to two or three recent graduates who are not on the school’s testimonial page.

Cheaper alternatives

You can learn the material without a bootcamp. What a bootcamp adds is schedule, feedback and a network. If you can supply those yourself, these are free or cheap:

The Odin Project is a free, open-source full-stack curriculum with two paths, JavaScript and Ruby on Rails, covering HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js and databases. See theodinproject.com.

Harvard’s CS50x is free via OpenCourseWare. It teaches problem solving and computer science fundamentals, starting in C, then Python, SQL, HTML, CSS and JavaScript. See cs50.harvard.edu/x. Certificates are optional and priced separately.

Launch School is a paid, mastery-based online school that charges $199 a month for its core courses and offers free preparatory courses. It does not state a fixed length; you progress by passing assessments. See launchschool.com.

Self-study with projects. Pick one language, build three or four small applications, and put them on GitHub. This costs nothing and shows employers what you can do. Our post on bootcamp alternatives goes through more options.

Whichever route you take, interviews are a separate skill. Building apps and answering timed algorithm questions are different skills, and many hiring processes test the second. AlgoCademy is one option for that part: its interactive lessons walk through coding interview problems step by step, with an editor and automatic checking. It teaches problem solving rather than full-stack projects or career placement, so it complements a curriculum like the ones above rather than replacing a bootcamp’s job support. LeetCode-style sites and mock interviews with friends serve the same purpose, and any of them is better than none.

Before you pay anyone

Confirm the program still runs and the start date is real (look for a dated cohort).

Get the total price in writing, including fees, and the refund policy.

Ask for outcomes with the method, the period and the number of graduates counted, ideally a CIRR report.

Read the full ISA or loan contract, and compare it with simply saving or studying free for six months.

Talk to recent graduates, and ask how long their search took.

Four coding bootcamps checked on their own sites in October 2026, with formats, lengths and prices, plus how to choose one and what to do if you skip it.

[23

post-7071","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-problem-solving
